Long back during the school days, I used to play for my school football team, but was not that good a cricket player. Though being a good player doesnt means that I was bound to know the happenings around the soccer world, and never developed the taste to watch football matches. On the contrary, being born in India. cricket was supposed to be in my blood like every other Indian. The match schedule of the Indian team for the forthcoming series was also always there in my mind.
Some excuse or the other was always there in my mind, to miss out the school, has there been a cricket match that day.
Never used to feel like having meals with the thought that India has lost the match. Thanks to my parents who used to persuade me that India would come strong the next day, and would win convincingly. Its not only me, its the passion for cricket that drives every Indian crazy.
"Its very well said that Cricket is largest religion of India."
"Hockey our national game has met its unnatural death. Thanks to the likes of KPS Gill's. "
Football has never been a game in India, let apart be the names like Mohan Bagan, East Bengal and some more clubs to be named. We have never been even a distant close to the International standards. Again thanks to the policies of our successive Indian Governments and the Sports Authority of India(SAI) who have never shown much of the interest in the Globally accepted international game, which I would say was never born in India.
We used to get happily glued to the telivision sets for five days during the test match, but on the other hand were never aware that Santosh trophy is also going on.
"IPL" on its debut itself has broken all records in terms of TRP's and revenues, best is yet to come.
Hope good sensse prevails one day, and we accept the Global game and produce the likes of Ronaldos and Maradonas. Who knows Baichung had been our Beckham, had we got the English passion for the game here in India as well.
